Celem badań była ocena początkowego wzrostu i produkcji fitomasy dwóch gatunków rącznika pospolitego (Ricinus communis L.), nawadnianych różnymi stężeniami ścieków pochodzących z przemysłu mleczarskiego zlokalizowanego w mieście Pombal-PB. Próbki ścieków zostały określone poprzez określenie parametrów jakości wody i zidentyfikowanie gatunków rącznika pospolitego, które najlepiej przystosowały się do warunków nawadniania ściekami. Projekt został przeprowadzony na Uniwersytecie Federalnym Campina Grande, Centrum Nauk i Technologii Rolno-Spożywczych, Kampus Pombal-PB. Przyjęty projekt eksperymentalny był randomizowanym projektem blokowym, z czterema replikacjami, w sumie 32 jednostkami eksperymentalnymi, w układzie czynnikowym 4 x 2. W doświadczeniu wykorzystano cztery stężenia ścieków mleczarskich, w proporcjach 200, 300, 400 i 500 ml L-1; oraz dwa gatunki papai, odmiany BRS Paraguaçu i BRS Energia, uprawiane w doniczkach o pojemności 10 litrów każda. Doniczki były perforowane, dodano żwir, a następnie dodano glebę o nazwie Neossolo Flúvico zebraną z gospodarstwa eksperymentalnego.
