All diese Ziele können mit Zahnimplantaten erreicht werden. Ihr Erfolg hängt jedoch vom periimplantären Knochenniveau ab. Der Plattformwechsel ist ein Konzept, bei dem eine Prothetikkomponente mit kleinerem Durchmesser mit einer Implantatplattform mit größerem Durchmesser verbunden wird, um einen 90-Grad-Versatz zwischen Implantat und Abutment zu schaffen, was zu einer Stabilität des periimplantären Hartgewebes bei Erhalt des Weichgewebes und der Papillen führt. Dadurch werden bakterielle Ansammlungen und sekundäre Implantitis verhindert. Diese jüngste Entwicklung sowie Veränderungen in Form und Material von Zahnimplantaten haben deren Anwendungsbereich in der Zahnmedizin erweitert.
