Heutzutage finden dünne Schichten aufgrund ihrer chemisch, physikalisch, elektrisch, magnetisch, optisch und mechanisch unterschiedlichen Eigenschaften wichtige Anwendungen. Diese Eigenschaften lassen sich durch Anpassung ihrer Kristallstruktur, Zusammensetzung und Größe steuern. In den letzten Jahren haben Wissenschaftler großes Interesse an Halbleitern auf der Basis von Metalloxiden in Nanogröße gezeigt, da sie ein großes Potenzial für verschiedene physikalisch-chemische Anwendungen haben. Unter diesen zeichnen sich ZnO-Dünnschichten durch ihre Effizienz, chemische Stabilität, geringe Toxizität und enge Energiebandlücke aus. ZnO-Dünnschichten sind besonders wichtig für Anwendungen wie Wasserspaltung, CO2-Reduktion, Sensoren und Photokatalyse. Unsere Forschung konzentriert sich auf ZnO-Katalysatoren wegen ihrer hohen katalytischen Effizienz und ihrer ungiftigen Nebenprodukte bei der photokatalytischen Entfärbung von natürlichen Schadstoffen. Es wird ein spezifischer und kosteneffektiver Ansatz benötigt, um die Verschmutzung zu reduzieren, ohne schädliche Nebenprodukte freizusetzen. Mehrere Wissenschaftler haben Ionen der Seltenen Erden (RE) in das Gitter des Wirtsmaterials eingebracht, um die katalytischen Reaktionen zu verbessern.
