No Brasil, a escravidão foi o principal modelo de punição no período colonial. Historicamente, é um país com grandes desigualdades sociais e possui uma política bastante excludente atrelada à questão do preconceito. Além disso, é um dos países que mais encarceram no mundo, tornando o sistema prisional falho em diversos segmentos. PERSPECTIVA DE EGRESSOS DO SISTEMA PRISIONAL EM RELAÇÃO À VIDA EM SOCIEDADE APÓS O CUMPRIMENTO DA PENA é o resultado de uma pesquisa realizada pela autora em sua dissertação de Mestrado em Psicologia. Este livro, portanto, está dividido em oito capítulos: o primeiro é a introdução; o segundo são os objetivos; o terceiro discorre sobre a história das punições fazendo uma divisão entre a Europa e o Brasil; o quarto capítulo discorre sobre a situação das políticas de atenção ao privado de liberdade do sistema penitenciário brasileiro; o quinto discorre os conceitos da Psicologia Social para dar mais ênfase nas questões de exclusão social, estigmas, preconceito e processo de ressocialização; o sexto capítulo é a nossa metodologia de pesquisa; o sétimo é o resultado e discussões da pesquisa; e o oitavo capítulo são as considerações finais. 10
