Personality Human and Divine

'Personality Human and Divine' is a profound theological exploration based on the Bampton Lectures delivered by John Richardson Illingworth. This influential work delves into the philosophical and spiritual concept of personality, examining how human identity serves as a bridge to understanding the nature of the Divine. Illingworth argues that the human experience of self-consciousness and moral agency provides a necessary framework for conceiving a personal God.The text is structured as a series of lectures that trace the development of the concept of personality throughout history, from ancient philosophy to modern thought. By synthesizing elements of Christian doctrine with late Victorian philosophical idealism, Illingworth presents a compelling case for the reasonableness of faith. He addresses the relationship between the finite and the infinite, the moral implications of character, and the manifestation of the divine through human consciousness.Rich in intellectual rigor and spiritual insight, 'Personality Human and Divine' remains a significant contribution to the philosophy of religion. It offers readers a sophisticated defense of theism that emphasizes the dignity of the human person and the profound connection between the creator and the created, making it an essential read for those interested in the intersection of philosophy and theology. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
