L’auteur appelle ces concepts des 'perpetuummobiles du troisième type'. À l’instar des perpetuum mobiles du premier et du deuxième type en thermodynamique, le perpetuum mobile du troisième type est quelque chose qui n’existe pas vraiment, mais qui ne peut pas être prouvé. En outre, de nombreux faits témoignent indirectement de l’absence de leur existence. Ce livre raconte au moins l’histoire de certains de ces objets et l’explication de l’auteur sur ce qui ne va pas avec eux. Le genre de ce livre est plutôt une fiction scientifique où 70 % de la science est diluée dans 30 % de la fiction.
