Le projet Akshaya est le premier projet d’alphabétisation numérique à l’échelle d’un district en Inde et l’un des plus grands réseaux sans fil basés sur le protocole Internet (IP) au monde. Lancé en 2002, il a été testé dans le district de Malappuram, dans l’État du Kerala . L’objectif du projet est de permettre à un membre de chaque famille de ce district d’acquérir des compétences informatiques. Malappuram est aujourd’hui considéré comme le premier district informatique de l’Inde. La mission se poursuit afin de faire du Kerala le premier État informatique de l’Inde.
