A maioria dos trabalhos anteriores sobre emoções foi realizada utilizando imagens faciais estáticas. Neste trabalho, examino os efeitos das propriedades dinâmicas dos sorrisos em combinação com a inclinação da cabeça e o género na percepção da pessoa e da expressão. Com o uso de software de animação gráfica, duas dinâmicas de sorriso diferentes (curta e longa duração) foram sintetizadas em personagens computadorizados masculinos e femininos, sem inclinação da cabeça, com inclinação para a esquerda ou para a direita. Os resultados mostraram que as pessoas que exibiam um sorriso autêntico, ou seja, um sorriso com longa duração, eram percebidas como mais confiáveis, mais atraentes e menos dominantes. Esses sorrisos também foram classificados como mais autênticos e sedutores. A influência da dinâmica do sorriso e da inclinação da cabeça na percepção da pessoa variou ainda mais em função do género da pessoa estimulante e do observador. Os resultados desta investigação fornecem novos insights sobre a inter-relação de sinais não verbais na percepção da pessoa e têm implicações em áreas como a psicologia, o marketing e a ciência da computação.
