In People of the Rain: Faces in the Rain, our young hero, Alex, further develops his psychic powers under the tutelage of John, the most powerful of their kind. For John, this battle is even more personal—He believes the Scanners have kidnapped his wife. In the first People of the Rain book, Rainfall, readers meet Alex, a young University student, and John, a psychically gifted First Nations leader, who had fallen into despair, desperation and alcoholism, searching for his wife. John struggles to redeem himself as he trains Alex and organizes all the gifted he can find into the first resistance to the Scanners. All the battles and a massive get together for all People of the Rain goes on in plain sight but hidden from the regular people, living their regular lives. Though Steve Oldfin’s series is considered science fiction, it is rooted in the reality most of us know. Most People of the Rain characters are First Nations People, struggling for the safety and the future of all people who have the physic gift brought on by the rain.
