Patriotes filipins a Barcelona és una monografia centrada en una petita finestra de temps (1880-1898), en la qual uns joves patriotes filipins, majorment estudiants universitaris a Barcelona, de bracet amb intel·lectuals conterranis exiliats, refermen la consciència nacional que tenien sobre el seu país. Aquests patriotes, coneguts com ilustrados al seu país, catalitzaran indirectament l’esclat revolucionari de la colònia a les darreries del segle xix, que portarà el caduc imperi espanyol, en un context internacional advers, a retirar-se d’aquelles terres asiàtiques i de les altres possessions d’Oceania, tot abandonant-les a mans d’altres potències.Intel·lectuals cabdals en l’emancipació nacional de les Filipines, com ara José Rizal, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Graciano López Jaena i Isabelo de los Reyes, son tractatsamb cert detall.
