Tremor ist ein unvermeidliches Nebenprodukt der Muskeltätigkeit. Die­ ser physiologische Tremor hat, ähnlich dem normalen EEG, ein charak­ teristisches Frequenzspektrum. Erkrankungen des extrapyramidal-moto­ rischen Systems führen durch eine pathologische Synchronisation moto­ rischer Einheiten zu verstärkten Tremoren, die ebenfalls typische Spek­ tren zeigen. Da sich die Innervation des Muskels bei allen zentral­ oder periphermotorischen Störungen ändert, führt dies notwendig auch zu entsprechenden Änderungen der Tremorspektren. Somit zeigen auch die­ jenigen Läsionen des motorischen Systems pathologische Tremorspektren, bei denen die Tremoramplituden normal sind und deshalb klinisch nicht als krankhaft imponieren.
