On the outskirts of Kabul, Afghanistan, three Marine Corps rifle teams support a drone strike. Their target: a meeting between two terror leaders from the Taliban and Al Queda. They watch as a single hellfire missile destroys the building. A cloud of doubt forms over what appears to be an overwhelmingly successful mission. One of the Marines assigned to the team shouts that the wrong building had been destroyed. Ten years later, long after his discharge, his lifeless body is discovered along the Savannah River, the victim of an apparent drug overdose. But appearances can be deceptive. Former Marine Corps Captain Chip Chandler requests that Peden Savage conduct an investigation into the death. Peden asks Megan Moore, his former FBI partner, to assist. What begins as a simple inquiry into the apparent suicide of a Marine Veteran turns into a rapidly expanding investigation that reaches to the upper echelon of the United States Marine Corps.
