Die Unterbringung von geflüchteten Menschen in Lagern ist auch in Deutschland ein immanenter Bestandteil der Migrationspolitik. Lager sollen die Versorgung, Kontrolle und Lokalisierung von Geflüchteten erleichtern. Gleichzeitig dienen sie als Orte der Abschreckung und sozialen Segregation, was zu zivilgesellschaftlicher Kritik und Auseinandersetzung führt. Ausgehend von dieser Spannung untersucht die soziologische Studie die Rolle zivilgesellschaftlicher Akteur:innen, insbesondere von Flüchtlingsräten, im Ringen um menschenwürdige Unterbringung. Im Fokus stehen Organisationen in Bayern und Nordrhein-Westfalen. Auf Grundlage von Interviews sowie der Analyse öffentlich-politischer Stellungnahmen zeigt die Arbeit, wie zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen Kritik an der Lagerpraxis in politische Strategien übersetzen, Positionen aushandeln und ihr Handeln im Verhältnis zu Staat und anderen Akteur:innen verorten. Theoretisch verankert in staats- und hegemonietheoretischen Ansätzen leistet das Buch einen Beitrag zum Verständnis des komplexen Verhältnisses zwischen Staat und Zivilgesellschaft im deutschen Migrationsregime.
