I love the parables of Jesus because they remind me that God can place eternal truth inside the most ordinary moments of life. A farmer walking across a field, a woman kneading dough, a father waiting for a son, a traveller lying beside a road, a merchant searching for a pearl, or workers standing in a marketplace could become the doorway into a revelation about the kingdom of God. Jesus did not make truth shallow when He made it understandable. He made it memorable, searchable, and personal. This book grew from teaching material I have used in ministry and from my continuing desire to hear the voice of Jesus behind the stories. I do not want us merely to identify characters, memorize definitions, or collect interpretations. I want us to sit with the stories long enough for them to sit with us. The parables invite us to ask what kind of soil we are becoming, what we truly treasure, whether mercy is moving through us, how we handle what God has entrusted to us, and whether we are living ready for the King. When I worship, there are times when I become deeply aware of God’s presence. At times it feels almost like someone hugging me, and in that quietness I can sense the Lord speaking with unusual clarity to my heart. I have learned that revelation is not always complicated. Sometimes God takes one truth and lets it settle so deeply that it begins to change the way we see everything else. That is how I want us to approach the parables: prayerfully, humbly, and with a willingness to respond. The chapters that follow are written pastorally rather than as classroom notes. The historical and interpretive principles remain important, but the goal is not information alone. My prayer is that these stories will help us recognize the kingdom of God in the places where Jesus said it could be found: in receptive hearts, quiet growth, costly mercy, persistent prayer, faithful stewardship, joyful surrender, and readiness for His return. May we not only understand the parables. May we become people whose lives show that we have heard the King.
