Het boek bevat achttien in de jaren 1992-1993 afgenomen interviews met Indo-Europeanen. In de gesprekken reageren de respondenten op de definitie van Ellemers en Vaillant over Indo-Europeanen en Indische Nederlanders. Naast hun mening over de definitie was de vraag in hoeverre bij de respondenten kennis aanwezig is over hun afkomst en familiegeschiedenis, zoals bijvoorbeeld het leven van hun (voor)ouders in In(dones)ië en de eerste periode in Nederland na de repatriëring. Ook komt ter sprake hoe men over de eigen positie denkt en dan met name als doorgeefluik van kennis naar kinderen en kleinkinderen en welk beeld men heeft van de eigen nabije toekomst en die van hun (klein)kinderen.
