Outrageous Rhymes sparkles with funny observations and characters. Like a pig who becomes an interior designer or an elephant, whose desperation for a friend unravels into her becoming a killing machine - accidentally of course! It brings amusement to everyday schooling, suggesting homework contravenes the Child Protection Act and makes slightly naughty comments about family, teachers and everyday chores. The rhymes reinvent some classic stories like Cinderella and Pinocchio with amusing observations of the characters, their flaws and their journey through the tale. Almost incontinent grandparents are given their moment in the limelight and Goldilocks does not fare well in being a kind and caring child. Morals may have conveniently been forgotten by some of the characters who you (and your parents) can judge at your leisure.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
