The urban south has been well-written and documented in today’s television shows, book series, plays and events. Black art, music and films have all been based or created around the black man’s Mecca: Atlanta. The idea of a Mecca in America for black folks is one where every dream come true. This dream is hammered into the consciousness of everyone in America, with Atlanta as the focal point.  Now, with this being said, What about the perception of the rural south, where my ancestors worked in the cotton fields and put up with real prejudice at every turn? Yes, what about now? Is the rural south still the same place of prejudice and hatred or has it changed to the progressive south, as seen in the onslaught of black television shows coming out of Atlanta? Or, is the rural south still stuck in its racist past, where poverty and injustice run rampant? In Our Small Town, the old and the new clash, all triggered by a double murder at a crack house. Murder at a crack house? What makes this any different from the hundreds of deaths every year at crack houses across the country? It is different when the murders occur at the height of football season, during the election year, in the rural south. Loyalties and relationships are strained. With the lifeblood of many of these small towns being one or two auto industry factories or big businesses supplying the jobs, you have a potentially explosive situation. Our Small Town takes a look at each suspect, their involvement, and potential guilt, along with the town’s people and state government with their interest in having a speedy resolution. Now if that’s not enough to pique your interest, wait until the North Korean show up!
