Die Osseointegration ist eine direkte strukturelle und funktionelle Verbindung zwischen lebendem Knochen und der Oberfläche eines belasteten Implantats. Wie in dem hochgeladenen Dokument beschrieben, wurde das Konzept erstmals 1969 von Brånemark eingeführt, der es als direkten Knochen-Implantat-Kontakt ohne dazwischenliegende Weichgewebsschicht definierte. Später betonte die American Academy of Implant Dentistry (1986) die feste, asymptomatische und unbewegliche Fixierung eines alloplastischen Materials im Knochen unter funktioneller Belastung. Zarb und Albrektsson hoben ferner hervor, dass eine klinisch erfolgreiche Osseointegration ein stabiles Implantat ohne Schmerzen, Radioluzenz oder Mobilität voraussetzt.Das Buch stellt außerdem fest, dass die Osseointegration von mehreren Faktoren beeinflusst wird, darunter das Implantatmaterial (üblicherweise kommerziell reines Titan), die Oberflächeneigenschaften, die chirurgische Technik, die Knochenqualität und -quantität sowie die Belastungsbedingungen. Primärstabilität bei der Insertion und eine kontrollierte Heilung sind entscheidend für eine erfolgreiche Knochenbildung an der Implantatgrenzfläche. Insgesamt bildet die Osseointegration die biologische Basis für den langfristigen Erfolg von Zahnimplantaten.
