Histórias como a defesa da Irlanda contra o rei Swaran ou o lamento pela morte prematura de Oscar evocam uma atmosfera de ruínas e honra, onde o destino dos heróis é selado pela transitoriedade da vida.Publicada no séc. XVIII por James Macpherson como tradução de antigos cantos gaélicos, a obra gerou intensas controvérsias quanto à sua autenticidade.
