Dieses Buch rekonstruiert die mehr-als-menschliche Dimension des Lieds im späten neunzehnten und frühen zwanzigsten Jahrhundert. Untersucht wird die Darstellung von Vogelgesang in deutschsprachiger Lyrik, Vokalmusik und ornithologischen Schriften. Dabei wird ein gleichberechtigt literatur- und musikwissenschaftlicher Ansatz verfolgt. Die ‚ornithophone Analyse‘ dokumentiert, wie eng sich Aspekte der Anthropologie, Ästhetik und Ökologie im Lied verbinden. Neben der Frage nach der historischen Beziehung zwischen Menschen und Vögeln steht dabei auch ein anthropozentrisches Weltbild zur Diskussion.
