Cuando un profesor organiza una clase pretende lograr que el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje resulte lo más eficaz posible. En el caso de una clase de Español para Extranjeros, el objetivo fundamental del profesor al plantear su clase es que el estudiante, como individuo y agente social que necesita aprender la lengua meta para comunicarse con otros agentes sociales como él, desarrolle su capacidad de poner en práctica las competencias lingüísticas comunicativas, orales o escritas, según el nivel al que pertenezca. Es fundamental, entonces, en la planificación de una clase de español para extranjeros, una buena selección de los materiales didácticos, o sea, de los textos que se utilicen y de las actividades que se propongan. También es importante el complejo tema de la motivación en el aula de ELSE, cuestión que, aunque tangencialmente, se relaciona y afecta la organización de una clase de español para extranjeros.
