This short work defends the claim that confessions occurred in Hades, explaining that the Lord’s boundless love rescued those in the underworld who, though not formally Christian, lived pure, ascetic, and virtuous lives and were thus receptive to divine enlightenment. These souls-prophets, judges, rulers, and humble ascetics-were drawn by God’s grace, given faith, and saved through Christ’s descent. Conversely, the morally and spiritually fruitless remained unreached, blinded by pride and darkness. The author likens this mercy to other scriptural instances where God’s goodness overruled announced judgments, stressing that present time is for labor and mutual care before the final, irrevocable judgment.
