Bestimmte Gewohnheiten wirken im Säuglings- und frühen Kindesalter als Stimuli für das normale Kieferwachstum; werden diese Gewohnheiten jedoch über ein bestimmtes Alter hinaus beibehalten, können sie zu wesentlichen ursächlichen Faktoren werden, die zu Fehlbildungen der dentofazialen Strukturen führen. Gewohnheiten sind die häufigste Ursache für Fehlbildungen, die vor allem in der frühen Kindheit und im Wechselgebiss auftreten. Ziel dieser Dissertation ist es, orale Gewohnheiten hinsichtlich ihrer Ätiologie, Diagnose und klinischen Auswirkungen zu untersuchen und eine Vielzahl von Behandlungsmethoden vorzustellen, um unseren jungen Patienten eine umfassende Versorgung zu ermöglichen.
