A chronic, persistent, scarring precancerous disorder of the oral cavity, oral submucous fibrosis OSMF is more common in South East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Over the previous forty years, the prevalence in India rose from 0.03% to 6.42%. An estimated 5 million OSMF patients reside in India, according to previously published data. OSMF is frequently observed in men aged 20 to 40. The floor of the mouth, retromolar pads, buccal and labial mucosa, and soft palate are frequently affected.
