Zigbee jest jedną z najnowszych technologii opracowanych przez Zigbee Alliance w celu umożliwienia WPAN. Technologia Zigbee ma lepsze właściwości w porównaniu z innymi standardami bezprzewodowymi, takimi jak Wi-Fi, WiMAX itp. Chociaż zasięg transmisji w Zigbee wynosi do kilku metrów, sieć ma kilka warstw, zaprojektowanych w celu umożliwienia komunikacji interpersonalnej w sieci i odpowiednich technik routingu, które mogą prowadzić do dotarcia danych na większe odległości, co prowadzi do zwiększenia zasięgu transmisji sygnału. Obecne badania koncentrują się na zasięgu transmisji sygnału w sieci Zigbee. Do analizy wykorzystano oprogramowanie Simulink o nazwie TRUETIME 2.0 w narzędziu MATLAB. Zaproponowano energooszczędny protokół routingu AODV oparty na Zigbee z wbudowanym dostępem do kanału CSMA-CA MAC w celu określenia trasy do węzła docelowego. Stworzono różne scenariusze symulacji sieci, aby zrozumieć wpływ wskaźników wydajności na wydajność sieci Zigbee. Aby zmaksymalizować zasięg transmisji sygnału sieci Zigbee, zastosowano różne techniki soft computing. Część sprzętowej implementacji sieci Zigbee odbywa się na kontrolerze opartym na ARM 7.
