Bitumen ist beim Bau flexibler Straßenbeläge weit verbreitet, doch der zunehmende Kunststoffabfall gibt Anlass zur Sorge um die Umwelt. In dieser Studie wird die Verwendung von Plastikflaschenabfällen als Modifikator in Bitumen untersucht, um die Leistungsfähigkeit von Straßenbelägen zu verbessern und gleichzeitig die Plastikverschmutzung zu reduzieren. Geschredderter Kunststoff wurde dem Heißbitumen in Anteilen von 3, 5, 7 und 10 Gew.-% zugesetzt. Es wurden Labortests zu Penetration, Erweichungspunkt, Duktilität, Viskosität und kurzfristiger thermischer Alterung durchgeführt und mit herkömmlichem Bitumen verglichen. Die Ergebnisse zeigten einen verbesserten Erweichungspunkt und eine höhere Viskosität, eine geringere Penetration und eine bessere thermische Stabilität bei kunststoffmodifiziertem Bitumen. Die Studie identifiziert einen optimalen Kunststoffgehalt und unterstützt die nachhaltige Verwendung von Kunststoffabfällen beim Bau flexibler Beläge.
