Los rumores dicen que prefirió el suicidio... que prestarse a descargos en Berlín. ¿Fue un fanático del régimen...? o ¿Un humanista oficial de Marina del Imperio Alemán...? De los 39 oficiales internados el 19 de diciembre de 1939: catorce huyeron de los talleres de la Armada Argentina en dársena norte la noche del 5 de abril de 1940 y dieciséis de la Isla Martín García el 31 de agosto del mismo año. Ningún oficial fue capturado y casi todos volvieron al servicio activo. Uno de ellos: el Teniente 1º Jorge Ratsch, fue tomado prisionero por los ingleses al ser hundido el submarino U-583 que comandaba; el Capitán de Corbeta Jürgen Wattenberg y los Tenientes de Navío Günter Schiebusch, Federico Mumm, Enrique Kummer y Dietrich Bludau tenían a su cargo el comando de lobos grises.
