The equipment and weapons in the story were state of the art at the time this novel was written in 1999. Some of them have subsequently come to pass and are in use in the Army today. Others, sadly, have been scrapped by Donald Rumsfeld because they don’t meet his inexperienced and myopic view of what war is all about. This is a book about war as it really is. There is no 'shock and awe.' There is only hard tank and infantry fighting done by memorable characters.
