The question of the self has been a relevant one since early Plato and Aristotle. However, there is no universally accepted definition of the self. Identity as a concept lies at the basis of contemporary cultural theories. In the work of French philosopher Paul Ricoeur, the dialogues from all the characteristic philosophical movements of the 20th century emerge. Hermeneutics lays a discursive, critical and creative basis to his works. This study aims to deliver a presentation of the narrative philosophy by Paul Ricoeur, performed as a contextual exploration of the elements and aspects it involves. Furthermore, the study aims to define the meaning of narrative identity in the process of formulating cultural identity. Through these aims, this study intends to contribute to various specific questions related to narrativity, identity and their shared forms in general.
