Das 'Oktett F-Dur' (Op. 166, D 803) von Franz Schubert zählt zu den bedeutendsten und umfangreichsten Werken der Kammermusik des 19. Jahrhunderts. Komponiert im Jahr 1824, orientiert sich das Werk in seinem sechssätzigen Aufbau an den Divertimenti der Wiener Klassik, erreicht jedoch eine emotionale Tiefe und klangliche Pracht, die weit über den rein unterhaltenden Charakter hinausgeht. Die ungewöhnliche Besetzung für zwei Violinen, Viola, Violoncello, Kontrabass, Klarinette, Horn und Fagott ermöglicht eine fast orchestrale Fülle, während die Transparenz des Ensemblesatzes stets gewahrt bleibt.
