Há pelo menos 3000 anos grupos indígenas têm transitado pela foz do rio Tapajós, o conjunto de vestígios deixados por eles indica uma ocupação gradual desse local que há cerca de 900 anos foi escolhido pelos Tapajó para ser seu lar, onde iniciaram o que ficaria conhecido como uma das maiores e mais complexas sociedades regionais da Amazônia. Este livro apresenta uma História desse lugar que por séculos foi o lar de grupos indígenas. Mais que uma contribuição à ciência arqueológica, espero que o seja para o diálogo dos homens e mulheres que hoje habitam a cidade de Santarém com esse passado do qual continuam curiosos e que se faz tão presente em suas vidas.
