Niniejsza publikacja przedstawia obraz chorób reumatycznych na obszarach wiejskich Demokratycznej Republiki Konga (DRK) na podstawie badania przeprowadzonego w wioskach położonych w okolicy Nkamba-Nouvelle Jérusalem w prowincji Kongo-Central. Ogółem 49,5% uczestników zgłaszało dolegliwości kostno-stawowe; ból był „głównym objawem' w większości schorzeń stawów, a jego charakter miał podłoże mechaniczne i/lub zapalne. Najczęstsze lokalizacje bólu to kręgosłup lędźwiowy (27,2%) oraz dłonie (27,1%) . Na podstawie międzynarodowych kryteriów zdiagnozowano szereg jednostek nosologicznych i określono częstość występowania każdej z nich. Podsumowując, choroby reumatyczne są powszechnie występujące i mają zróżnicowany obraz kliniczny na kongijskich obszarach wiejskich. W przypadku niektórych schorzeń odnotowano pewne różnice w stosunku do danych z literatury, zarówno pod względem demograficznym, jak i klinicznym, biologicznym oraz radiologicznym.
