Este libro recoge tres obras de Enrique Bernardo Núñez, “Don Pablos en América,” “Cubagua” y “La Galera de Tiberio,” las cuales ahora se publican por primera vez en conjunto, constituyendo las mismas el centro del proyecto narrativo de este destacadísimo escritor venezolano.Estas obras, que fueran escritas entre las décadas de 1920 y 1930, invitan a una reconsideración historiográfica del aporte venezolano a la renovación narrativa continental del Siglo XX.Alejado tanto del regionalismo como de la incipiente beligerancia vanguardista, Enrique Bernardo Nuñez anticipó aspectos fundamentales, temáticos y estéticos de la literatura latinoamericana posterior. Su obra apenas despierta a la crítica internacional, pero es aceptada ya como una de las primeras concreciones del realismo mágico, de la Nueva Narrativa Histórica, y hasta de una suerte de neorrealismo de corte testimonial.La narrativa de Enrique Bernardo Nuñez (Valencia 1895 - Caracas 1964) no tiene precedentes en Venezuela y muy pocos seguidores. Se dedicó también al periodismo de opinión y al ensayo histórico literario. Fue el primer cronista oficial de la ciudad de Caracas y miembro de número de la Academia Nacional de la Historia.La edición crítica que se ofrece de estas tres obras, ha estado bajo el cuidado del investigador Alejandro Bruzual, quien por más de una década ha venido trabajando en la fijación de los textos, edición y estudio de la obra completa del autor.
