Contents of this book were inserted in the O3Consortium research project, which had the aim topropose a complete solution for the adoption of opentechnology in the healthcare environment. Thesolution should become a whole new model for e-healthapplication and include new products integrated witha development, support and business model.The author contributed to built a state of the artserver for the management of DICOM data and ofimaging objects (PACS - Picture and ArchivingCommunication System), with the aim to ease theadoption of e-health technology and to develop aproduct on which the model would have been tested. It should be remarked that the O3 Consortiummeans not only software development but also newprocedures in both technology and service delivering. Should be noted the originality of the O3 Consortiumproject proposal of a whole complete applicationmodel to the healthcare real world based on opensource software. No other solution for open sourcesoftware application makes a complete proposal forall the topics of development, design, softwarearchitecture, support and business opportunity.
