A liderança é a força motriz do sucesso organizacional. Os estudos sobre liderança têm-se concentrado sobretudo no efeito da liderança nos subordinados, nas empresas e na sociedade, sem falar muito sobre a forma como os liderados percepcionam a liderança, com base nas suas experiências pessoais e na sua vida quotidiana. Por conseguinte, este estudo utilizou uma estratégia de investigação de estudo de caso e um método de investigação misto, para explorar o significado de liderança para os indivíduos no Politécnico de Takoradi, no Gana, a fim de determinar se a sua perceção de liderança se baseava no que os líderes são (ou seja, as suas caraterísticas), fazem (ou seja, o seu comportamento) e como o fazem (ou seja, o estilo de liderança).
