O problema da libertação do homem da sociedade contemporânea é impossível sem um exame crítico e cuidadoso. É necessário abordar estas questões enquanto a dominação e a exploração continuarem a existir nas sociedades modernas e contemporâneas. Este livro tentará responder às seguintes questões: Existe uma origem possível para as sociedades actuais? Quais foram as etapas decisivas no nascimento das sociedades modernas e contemporâneas? É possível identificar as causas da dominação e da alienação humanas? Como é que as pessoas se relacionam umas com as outras? Como é que uma sociedade unidimensional explora o indivíduo? Existe atualmente alguma alternativa à liberdade do indivíduo? Quais são os defeitos da sociedade moderna e contemporânea? A solidariedade não é uma alternativa?
