A sua teoria do significado das palavras teve um grande impacto na crítica literária e criou novas vias para a literatura mundial. Além disso, as suas ideias dispersas nos seus volumosos livros formulam uma bela teoria sobre os estudos de tradução, a sociologia moderna, a lógica e a zoologia.
