Neste livro analisamos o romance Coração apertado (2010), da escritora francesa Marie NDiaye, sob a perspectiva da categoria espaço, no que tange à sua acepção no texto literário. Na obra, temos narrada, em primeira pessoa, a conturbada história de Nadia, francesa filha de imigrantes que decide abandonar a periferia em que habitam seus familiares e antigos amigos para se inserir no cenário do centro da cidade de Bordeaux, onde ela se casa com um “verdadeiro francês” e passa a viver o contexto da elite bordalesa. Seu deslocamento no espaço se efetiva também como uma reconfiguração do tempo, visto que a personagem nega e deixa para trás o seu passado. O que acontece, porém, é que repentinamente tudo começa a mudar, e a sua nova realidade surge fugaz, ameaçadora e monstruosa. A noção de espaço é nitidamente presente no livro, desde o seu título, e duas das perguntas que para nós ecoam durante toda a leitura são: de que modo os espaços são ocupados pelo indivíduo contemporâneo? Identidades distintas são, de fato, alvos de aceitação? Debruçamo-nos, assim, sobre os aspectos espaciais presentes no texto, a fim de compreendermos como eles se efetivam na narrativa, como também objetivamos compreender algumas facetas que compõem o perfil do sujeito contemporâneo. 10
