Este livro procura sublinhar o papel essencial do Estado na realização do bem viver, recorrendo à Política e à Ética a Nicómaco de Aristóteles. Para o efeito, considera uma dupla problemática: Em primeiro lugar, reconhece e procura resolver a noção errónea do que significa a vida boa. Em segundo lugar, observa também que a lógica subjacente à alegada conceção errónea do que é a vida boa se baseia na discrepância entre os sistemas políticos e a sua finalidade própria - promover e assegurar a vida boa e feliz para todos os membros da polis. Além disso, esta investigação, recorrendo à Política e à Ética a Nicómaco de Aristóteles, corrige a ideia errónea de vida boa e de Estado. Curiosamente, a razão de ser das obras de Aristóteles acima mencionadas como os textos mais escolhidos para esta investigação reside no facto de estas obras clássicas de Aristóteles não se limitarem a identificar o que é a vida boa, mas também sugerirem os vários meios através dos quais os seres humanos podem alcançar a felicidade ou a vida boa e, assim, viver harmoniosamente num determinado Estado ou sociedade.
