Die Charakterisierung der Aerodynamik von Raketen ist eine Voraussetzung für die Konstruktion und den Betrieb dieser Fahrzeuge. Um ihre Flugbahn zu bestimmen, müssen die aerodynamischen Eigenschaften in allen Flugphasen bekannt sein. Eine Möglichkeit, die aerodynamischen Eigenschaften einer Rakete zu ermitteln, sind numerische Simulationen der Strömung entlang der Rakete. Zu diesem Zweck wird der Bereich um die Rakete in ein Berechnungsnetz diskretisiert, das dann für die numerische Lösung der Gleichungen, die die Strömung steuern, verwendet wird. Ziel dieses Buches ist es, die Erstellung von Berechnungsnetzen in Raketen zu zeigen und ihre Eignung für Strömungssimulationen in verschiedenen Geschwindigkeitsbereichen zu bewerten. Diese Simulationen werden mit dem Programm NS3D durchgeführt, das die 3-D-Navier-Stokes-Gleichungen für turbulente Strömungen numerisch löst. Diese Simulationen werden durch den Vergleich der berechneten Ergebnisse mit experimentellen Daten validiert.
