A DPOC é uma das principais doenças que aumenta a mortalidade em todo o mundo e afecta a qualidade de vida da população que sofre da doença. A reabilitação pulmonar inclui exercícios para a respiração e exercícios de fortalecimento dos músculos respiratórios, bem como dos músculos das extremidades superiores e inferiores. Para além disso, a estabilidade e a força dos músculos centrais desempenham um papel importante na respiração. No entanto, são muito poucos os estudos que dão ênfase à avaliação dos músculos centrais e aos exercícios de fortalecimento. O presente livro ajuda a compreender o papel dos músculos do núcleo em doentes com DPOC e a importância da avaliação destes músculos na DPOC.
