Nadejście ery informacyjnej zmieniło wiele rzeczy. Zawód tłumacza również przeszedł znaczące zmiany. Obecnie, aby być kompetentnym tłumaczem, konieczna jest znajomość obsługi komputera i aktualizowanie swoich umiejętności w zakresie technologii informacyjnych. Niniejsza praca miała na celu scharakteryzowanie obecnego stanu kompetencji instrumentalnej wśród kubańskich tłumaczy medycznych. Szybko jednak odkryliśmy, że modele dostępne w literaturze nie są odpowiednie do tego celu. Z tego powodu proponujemy nowy model kompetencji instrumentalnej. Badania te mają zarówno znaczenie teoretyczne, jak i praktyczne. Propozycja nowego, kompleksowego modelu kompetencji instrumentalnej stanowi uzupełnienie aktualnej teorii w tej dziedzinie. Praktyczne znaczenie wynika z faktu, że wyniki tych badań mogą pomóc w rozważeniu nowych podejść w ramach studiów licencjackich i magisterskich z zakresu tłumaczeń w odniesieniu do rozwoju tej kompetencji. Książka ta powinna być szczególnie przydatna dla społeczności tłumaczy, a także dla profesorów odpowiedzialnych za opracowywanie programów studiów tłumaczeniowych.
