Questo libro è un tentativo di stabilire un legame tra la nostalgia greca, in particolare un movimento che fiorì in Germania nella seconda metà del XVIII secolo, e l’amore, come tema della filosofia che Nietzsche avrebbe chiamato pensiero di affermazione della vita. Per compiere questo percorso, partiamo dai contributi fondamentali di Winckelmann, Lessing e Kant, senza i quali Schiller, come filosofo e drammaturgo, non avrebbe lasciato la sua importante riflessione sulle teorie del tragico e del bello, che culmina nel progetto di educazione estetica in epoca moderna. Ma pur offrendo questo notevole progetto, egli stesso era reticente sulla direzione che l’uomo e l’umanità stavano prendendo alla fine dell’Illuminismo. Speriamo di dimostrare che l’esercizio critico insito nell’attività filosofica è stato fondamentale per il ritorno ai Greci, per la proposta di un’educazione estetica e anche per l’affermazione della filosofia come movimento essenziale per l’uomo, soprattutto quando si avvicina all’arte e alla politica.
