The first scream cut through the night like a knife, slicing Ronny’s mind open and spilling him out of deep sleep. He leaped off the bed, his heart beating so hard he clutched his chest to contain it. At first, he thought he must have had a nightmare, but the sound of feet running from the bed- room beside him had Ronny open his door and follow. Ronny stood in the doorway watching Bobby Jay as he pulled Eric into his arms and soothed him. 'It is okay, kid. I’m here now. Could you wake up and tell me what you’ve learned? I’ve got you.
