Большинство исследований, посвященных творчеству госпожи де Жанлис, в свое время почти полностью забытой, носят частичный характер и почти всегда посвящены одним и тем же произведениям, относящимся к началу ее литературной деятельности. Интерес настоящей работы заключается в том, что, сосредоточившись на малокомментируемом разделе творчества Жанлис - трех сентиментальных романах, написанных в первом десятилетии XIX века, - мы стремимся вынести суждения об оригинальности идей и произведений мадам де Жанлис в связи с интеллектуальным климатом, в котором они появились, оценить жизнеспособность ее педагогических принципов и ее видения этического воспитания, о котором она рассказывает в своих романах, и определить особенности концепции практической или экспериментальной добродетели, которая характеризует морализаторский подход генлисовской продукции.Три сентиментальных романа: ' Каломни или соперницы ' (1800), 'Альфонсина или материнская нежность ' (1806) и 'Альфонс или сын природы' (1809) - отражают заботу о чистоте и нравственности, содержат ценный жизненный опыт и образ действий, рекомендуемый добродетельному человеку.
