Целью данного исследования было выяснить, способны ли изучающие испанский язык при чтении литературных текстов понимать культурные элементы языка, приписывая им возможные значения в контексте повествования, и позволяет ли такое понимание и означивание расширить их коммуникативную компетенцию. Для этого были выбраны два коротких рассказа на испанском языке: Родригес Франсиско Эспинолы и Nos han dado la tierra Хуана Рульфо, и разработаны тесты для чтения. Эти тесты, проведенные в классах, обучающихся на дополнительном курсе по языку и испанской литературе в UCS, показали более высокие результаты в тесте на чтение рассказа Nos han dado la tierra, что объясняется менее четким предварительным представлением о центральных элементах повествования и контекстуальным текстом, который составлял этот тест. При чтении рассказа Родригес студенты лишь перенесли свои прежние представления о культурных элементах, затронутых в рассказе, не сумев идентифицировать гаучо, изображенного в рассказе, как другого.
