VLAN - это группа устройств в одной или нескольких локальных сетях, настроенных на взаимодействие так, как будто они подключены к одному проводу, хотя на самом деле они расположены в нескольких разных сегментах локальной сети. Сетевые администраторы не хотят внедрять VLAN, так как считают, что это основной фактор задержки в сети. В книге рассматривается поведение VLAN и моделируются различные сценарии сетей с помощью инструмента моделирования OPNET и приложения Cisco Packet Tracer для уровня проектирования. Проведено сравнение сети с VLAN и той же сети без VLAN и доказано статистическими методами, что использование VLAN лучше, чем их отсутствие, а также показана полезность использования VLAN в различных типах сетей.
