Важность и необходимость оценки в процессе образовательной деятельности можно рассматривать с двух точек зрения. Первая точка зрения связана с планировщиком или преподавателем. В самом деле, планируя обучение и принимая решения в процессе образовательной деятельности, чтобы получить достоверную информацию о подготовке и академическом прогрессе учащихся и эффективности их деятельности в классе посредством оценки, учитель находит информацию и осведомленность о трех категориях. К этим категориям относятся:A) Проблемы и недостатки в элементах учебного плана (цели, содержание, методы, материалы и средства обучения); B) Уровень академического прогресса учащихся и их подготовка к дальнейшему образованию; и C) Эффективность преподавания и адекватность инструментов, используемых для измерения академического прогресса учащихся. Вторая точка зрения связана с учащимися. Таким образом, через оценку учащиеся поощряются развивать свои положительные стороны и решать свои образовательные недостатки с помощью и под руководством учителя, осознавая при этом положительные и отрицательные стороны своей работы в процессе обучения.
