A asma é a doença crónica mais comum na infância com etiologia imunológica. A vitamina D tem demonstrado propriedades imunomoduladoras que podem constituir uma esperança para controlar a asma. Muitos estudos apoiam e muitos refutam a relação entre o nível sérico de vitamina D na asma infantil. Por isso, um ensaio multicêntrico de base alargada que envolva um grande número de amostras de diferentes localizações geográficas e grupos étnicos, envolvendo o estado da vitamina D e o seu impacto nos resultados da gestão da asma, lançará mais luz sobre o problema.
