Nineteen, A Playlist is a biographical poetry collection about the nineteenth year of the author’s life. In the book, Villareal Bell explores themes of grief, heartbreak, addiction, culture, and self-discovery after getting broken up with on the one-year anniversary of her father’s death. Each poem doesn’t have a title, rather correlating with a different song, meaningful to the author, to explore different perspectives and approaches to the same emotion. Dedicated to her father, who passed away in 2023, the collection is shaped by grief, love, and the slow process of becoming someone new.
